VAN PELT SET FOR UMD GOLF SYMPOSIUM
On March 4, 2016 - In collaboration with the University of Maryland’s Arts and Humanities Center for Synergy, ESPN's Scott Van Pelt is moderating a daylong symposium, “Race, Social Class and Professional Golf,” on Friday, March 4, to ask and address questions of race and social class in professional golf. Golf. My Future. My Game. will be in attendance.
Through our program “Let’s Talk Golf”, we deliver a curriculum that is designed to get students moving, physically active and interested in the game and business of golf. Our curriculum builds on the The First Tee’s established Nine Core Values that represent some of the many inherently positive values connected with the game of golf.
"LET'S TALK GOLF"
Insight and Growth
When asked by a publication in early 2015 - - “Why did I launch a non-profit for golf?” My answer was “to breathe new life into the sport” Our Let’s Talk Golf program started with 30 students eager to learn and participate in a new challenge. Since the programs inaugural run at Holy Family Catholic School, we’ve now been invited to expand into two new schools. Mt. Calvary Catholic Elementary School (March 2016) and the Washington Jesuit Academy (Summer 2016)
"Let's Talk Golf" is a weekly experience that takes place during lunch at the school site or as a field trip to a local golf course. Jimmy Garvin, General Manager, and his team of certified PGA Professionals from the Marlton Golf Club introduce the students to the game through tours, clinics, and on-course experiences. Through these experiences, the students we engage learn swing and short game techniques, the rules, etiquette, and the history of the game. Program participants also gain valuable life skills in the form of the values we teach:
HONESTY - INTEGRITY - SPORTSMANSHIP - RESPECT - CONFIDENCE - RESPONSIBILITY - PERSEVERANCE - COURTESY - JUDGMENT
